Let the Fun Begin
Thursday, January 27, 2011, Tommy and I officially mailed in our formal application to begin the process of adopting our two children from Ethiopia. Wow! What a great feeling. Despite the fact that it was 27 pages and required sketches of our home and notarized signatures and lots of money and..and..and, it probably will be the most simple step in the whole process! It currently floats between here and Michigan somewhere, and I’m sure in a few days we will have a response.
So, what’s next? Several things. We have already started the homestudy application, another “book” that needs things like marriage certificates, birth certificates, medical exams, online education certificates, fingerprinting and more. Once this has been completed, a social worker can be assigned to our case and come to our house to do a couple formal interviews. But beyond the paperwork is the fundraising!
Currently, we are working on some great ways to raise money to contribute towards the adoption, but we certainly need your help! At my workplace, I will be holding a raffle, giving away great prizes. Secondly, my beautiful friend, Sally McRae and I, will be organizing several bootcamp and hiking weekend events on a monthly basis. I will keep everyone updated on the dates/times etc. on this blog, but if you would like more specifics, feel free to email me at kendrahiggins@yahoo.com. In addition, my wonderful boss, Dr. Kendall Wagner, has offered to take someone on a flight in his WWII era P-51 Mustang. We will be holding an auction and the highest bidder will receive an amazing 45-60 min flight in the special warbird. I have personally taken a flight with him and it is beyond incredible. There is another page specifically about this event… read on!
How about you? What would you like to be a part of? Do you have any ideas or ways that you would like to get involved to help raise money for our adoption? We welcome all your suggestions. Feel free to comment or email us at kendrahiggins@yahoo.com. Please keep us in your prayers, and thank you for all your support & interest.
I want to express my hopes for you both as you start the process of the adoption. What and wonderful and inspiring thing to do.
